We are seeking an experienced, empathetic, and highly skilled Specialized Nanny to provide dedicated support for a child who thrives under trauma-informed care, structured routines, and strong emotional co-regulation. The child experiences periods of heightened emotional dysregulation and a strong need for environmental control.
The ideal candidate views challenging behaviors through a developmental, trauma-informed lens, understanding that outbursts are a sign of nervous system overload rather than deliberate misbehavior and knows how to build felt safety while maintaining clear, peaceful boundaries.
Key Responsibilities
-
Emotional Regulation & De-escalation: Support the child through emotional dysregulation using trauma-informed strategies (e.g., co-regulation, low-arousal approach, non-violent de-escalation).
-
Routine & Predictability: Implement visual schedules, clear transition warnings, and structured daily routines to reduce anxiety and satisfy the child's need for predictability.
-
Empowerment Through Choice: Offer structured choices within safe boundaries to support the child's need for autonomy and control.
-
Collaborative Care: Collaborate with the child’s parents to consistently apply therapeutic strategies in the home.
-
Safe Space Management: Maintain a secure, sensory-friendly environment and manage physical safety during intense meltdowns without using punitive measures.
-
Engagement: Engage the child in enriching, regulating activities (outdoor sensory play, creative arts, movement, quiet time).
Qualifications & Requirements
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
-
Experience: 2-3+ years of professional experience working with children with complex emotional needs, trauma histories, behavioral challenges, or neurodivergence (e.g., as a specialized nanny, Child Life Specialist, RBT, or respite care provider).
-
Certifications (Preferred):
-
Training in Trauma-Informed Care or Trust-Based Relational Intervention.
-
Crisis De-escalation training (e.g., CPI, Safety-Care, or similar non-violent crisis intervention).
-
CPR / First Aid certification.
-
-
Core Competencies: Exceptional emotional self-regulation, deep patience, strong personal boundaries, non-reactive communication style, and high adaptability.
